The Human Factors Foundation is an independent, non profit organisation established to advance patient safety and system performance through evidence based human factors principles.

Leadership

Governance

Meet Our Directors

Dr. Dinesh Martin

Dinesh Martin DDS MSc PGCert MGDS RCSI MFDS RCSEd.

Dinesh is a dental surgeon and governance professional whose career spans clinical practice, higher education and regulatory leadership. He brings to his roles a strong commitment to clinical excellence, professional standards and the advancement of organisational effectiveness across healthcare and academic sectors.

In the field of education Dr. Martin actively contributes to undergraduate learning and professional development. He serves as a part time lecturuer at the University of the West Indies School of Dentistry and is also an examiner at the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He is actively involved in healthcare governance and regulatory affairs. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago and is a member of a Specialist Advisory Board for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh where he contributes to the development of professional standards and regulatory guidance.

Dinesh also serves as a Director of the University of the West Indies, Development and Endowment Fund which provides financial support to the students at the St Augustine Campus in Trinidad.

Dinesh holds multiple postgraduate qualifications, including a Master’s degree in Advanced General Dental Practice and a Postgraduate Certificate in Endodontics. He has also earned several diplomas from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ireland and England.

He is also the Founder and Chairman of The Human Factors Foundation, an interdisciplinary initiative focused on improving safety, performance and decision making in healthcare and other complex organisations. The Foundation draws on principles from human factors engineering, behavioural science and clinical governance to reduce systemic risk and support improvement across safety sensitive environments.

Professor Sanjay Garth Bahadoorsingh

Professor Sanjay Garth Bahadoor singh HBM (PhD Manchester; MSc UMIST; BSc UWI) is a national awardee (Hummingbird Gold) and distinguished registered electrical engineer with over two decades of contribution to Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean in power systems, sustainable energy, electric mobility, and technical education.
He serves as Professor of Power Systems and Sustainable Energy at The University of the West Indies (UWI), where he was promoted at age 41, and has held senior leadership roles including Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (2021–2024) and Deputy Dean for Enterprise Development and Outreach (2019–2021).
A Senior Member of IEEE and recognised High Voltage Testing Engineer by the Government Electrical Inspectorate, he has coordinated emergency high-voltage repairs and safe reconnection of utility supply across public and private facilities, alongside an extensive portfolio of publications and industry technical reports; he has also been recognised by the High Court as an expert witness, notably regarding the failed submarine power cable between Trinidad and Tobago (2015–2019).
He plays key standards and policy roles, including Chair of the National Technical Committee for Electrical Codes at Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) and President of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) national affiliate programme, with additional leadership on electric vehicle specifications and high-voltage codes.
Beyond engineering, he has served as inaugural Chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Multistakeholder Advisory Group (TTMAG), a trustee of COSTAATT, and an inaugural director of The Angostura Foundation, supporting scholarship and community initiatives; he also helped advance STEM education through collaboration with NIHERST.
His contributions have been recognised nationally, including TTBS recognition for standards development (2024), the Hummingbird Medal Gold for Engineering and Education (2024), and the APETT Fenrick R. De Four Award for Outstanding Engineering Achievement (2025).

Professor Patrick Hosein

Patrick is a national awardee, having been awarded Trinidad and Tobagos highest Honor in 2024 ,the Order of the Republic of Trindiad and Tobago for his service.

Patrick attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he obtained five degrees including a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has worked at Bose Corporation, Bell Laboratories, AT&T Laboratories, Ericsson and Huawei.
He has published extensively with over 200 refereed journal and conference publications. He holds 41 granted patents in the areas of telecommunications and wireless technologies.
He was nominated for the Ericsson Inventor of the Year award in 2004, was the Huawei US Wireless Research Employee of the year for 2007, is a 2015 Anthony Sabga Caribbean Laureate for Science and Technology is a National Geographic Explorer and is a recipient of the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT) award for 2024. Patrick is presently the administrative and technical contact for the TT top level domain, CEO of the TTNIC and a Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of the West Indies. His present areas of research include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Operations Research and Wireless Communications.
